The Book of Odes says:“The royal domain extends a thousand li – this is where the people find their abode.”
“The Way of the Great Learning lies in illuminating one’s inherent luminous virtue, in renewing the people, and in attaining the highest excellence.”
Mencius went to see King Hui of Liang, who said, “Venerable sir, you have traveled a thousand miles to see me – surely you must have some way to benefit my state?”
