Hacking the Boa

Two brothers surnamed Hu from Hutian Village walked into a deep mountain ravine. There they came upon a huge boa. As the elder brother was walking in front, the boa caught him first. At first, the frightened younger brother was going to run away, but when he saw that the boa had swallowed part of his brother, he was so enraged that he lifted the ax he used for cutting firewood and hacked away at the boa’s head.

Although wounded in the head, the boa was still struggling to swallow the rest of its prey. It had already swallowed the head. Luckily, it was now having difficulty getting the shoulders into his mouth. Frantic and for lack of a better way, the younger brother grasped his elder brother’s feet. After a tug-of-war with the boa, he managed to pull his brother out of the boa’s mouth. Wounded, the boa left. The younger brother examined his brother’s wounds and found that he had lost his nose and ears and was on the verge of death. He quickly lifted his brother on his back and went home, stopping more than a dozen times to catch his breath.

The elder brother gradually recovered after receiving medical treatment and recuperating for more than half a year. Even today, you can still see scars on his face and holes where his nose and ears used to be.

Well, even among uneducated farmers, there are people like the younger brother who cherish brotherly love! Someone said, “The boa didn’t kill the elder brother because it was moved by the younger brother’s loyalty.” Perhaps, that’s true!
