Caigentan 86. Awareness and redirection

As soon as you find your thoughts deflecting to the path of material desires, switch them immediately back to the path of preserving your essential nature.

As soon as you become aware of an evil thought flitting through your mind, tum away from it.

That way you can tum disaster into a blessing and snatch life from the jaws of death. On no account should you lightly miss such opportunities.

念头起处,才觉向欲路上去,便挽从理路上来。一起便觉,一觉便走,此是转祸为福,起死回生的关头,切莫轻易放过。

Notes

Life’s fortunes hinge on that initial divergence of thought. Awareness and redirection form the critical defense against downfall. Maintain vigilance over the mind’s impulses; never let it slide unconsciously into darkness. Intervene against harmful thoughts immediately—without hesitation or indulgence—correcting deviations the instant they surface.

This passage from Cai Gen Tan – Tending the roots of wisdom reminds us: Life is the sum of its thoughts. Every mental inclination invisibly shapes destiny. True strength lies not in lacking selfish impulses, but in detecting them at inception and redirecting them instantly—harnessing conscious awareness to master instincts and desires, replacing passive surrender with active choice. Seizing this agency keeps one steadfast on the noble path of attracting fortune and averting calamity.
