Caigentan 147. Self-Reflection vs Complaints

A person who engages in self-reflection turns everything he comes into contact with into a good tonic which keeps him alert.

But a man who is always blaming others turns every single thought into a spear with which to harm others.

Self-reflection is like blazing a trail to all good things, whereas blaming others is like opening up a channel to the wellspring of all evils: The two are as far apart as Heaven and Earth.

反己者,触事皆成药石;尤人者,动念即是戈子。一以辟众善之路,一以浚诸恶之源,相去霄壤矣。

Notes

  • Those who practice self-retrospection transform every experience into healing medicine for growth;
  • Those who rail against heaven and blame others weaponize every thought into arrows of harm.

Self-reflection turns life’s encounters into stepping stones, paving paths toward goodness; Complaints twist thoughts into stumbling blocks, plunging souls into destructive spirals.

Rather than decrying the world’s injustice, turn inward: What can I do?

The moment you begin this self-examination, you stand at the gateway to the Convergence of Virtues.
