Caigentan 132. Inner bedrock, Outer radiance

An upright and virtuous personality, which shines like broad daylight, is fostered in a dark hut with a leaky roof.

The art of ruling the world is formed and gradually perfected with the same great caution and circumspection with which a man walks along the edge of a precipice or on a lake covered with a thin sheet of ice.

青天白日的节义,自暗屋漏室中培来;旋乾转坤的经纶,自临深履薄处缲出。

Notes

The radiance displayed in public springs from integrity upheld in solitude — true moral fiber lies not in ‘performance when observed,’ but in ‘self-discipline when unseen.’

Grand statecraft capable of transforming affairs emerges from reverent diligence in daily acts — genuine strategy manifests not through grandiose theories, but through meticulous attention to details. Only by approaching each task with awe — never underestimating risks nor overlooking vulnerabilities — can one forge breakthrough solutions at critical junctures.

All outward brilliance originates from inner cultivation; all extraordinary achievements begin with daily accumulation.
