King Xuan of Qi received Mencius in the Snow Palace and asked, “Does a virtuous man also enjoy such a thing as this palace?”
It is inevitable that the man who seeks not fame and wealth should arouse the jealousy of a man who is avid for such things. It is inevitable that he who is circumspect in speech and conduct should provoke the dislike of reckless or audacious persons.
Weapons are objects of ill omen, reviled by the people. Thus, followers of the Dao abstain from employing them.
