  • Mozi – Chapter 39

    This chapter fiercely refutes Confucianism. It criticizes hierarchical mourning, fatalism, empty rituals and Confucian hypocrisy, and accuses Confucius of political scheming and inconsistent conduct, dismissing his doctrines as harmful to state welfare.

  • The Analects – Chapter 46 (3.6). Rebuke of ritual usurpation at Mount Tai

    3.6 The head of the Ji family was going to make the offerings on Mount Tai. Confucius said to Ran Qiu, “Cannot you save him from this?” Ran Qiu replied, “I cannot.” Confucius said, “Alas, we can hardly suppose Mount Tai to be ignorant of matters that even Lin Fang inquires into!”

  • The Analects – Chapter 42 (3.2). Sacrilege of power

    3.2 The Three Families used the Yong Song during the removal of the sacrificial vessels. Confucius said, “‘By rulers and lords attended,The Son of Heaven, mysterious….’ What possible application can such words have in the hall of the Three Families?”
