Lu Fengning, a servant of Wang Puling who lives in our township, has a weakness for snakes.
Each time he gets hold of a small snake, he puts the whole thing into his mouth and chews on it as one would a piece of scallion. If it’s a big snake, he’ll chop it up into inch-long sections and eat from his hands. One can hear a clanging sound as he bites, while blood from the snake dribbles from his mouth and down his chin.
He has a keen sense of smell. Once, he scented the aroma of snake meat from inside a building. He ran outside and, sure enough, caught a snake more than a foot in length. As he didn’t have a knife with him, he first ate the snake’s head, while the tail was still thrashing about outside his mouth.
