Chinese mythology, folktales, and literature
The Monkey King is given the name Sun Wukong (孙悟空 or 孫悟空 in Chinese) by his first master, Subhuti. But why the surname Sun?
Zhu Bajie is a fictional character from the classic Chinese novel Journey to the West (Xiyouji, 西游记). He is one of the main disciples of the monk Xuanzang (Tang Sanzang) on their pilgrimage to India to retrieve Buddhist scriptures.
Sun Wukong arrives at the Wuzhuang Temple and, due to his mischievous nature and the influence of his companion Zhu Bajie, attempts to steal the ginseng fruits—magical fruits that grant immortality. The disciples of Zhenyuanzi discover the act, leading to a conflict.
