Caigentan 65. Mastering one’s inner climate

If a man’s thoughts are bright and clear, then even if he is in a dark place his heart will be as shiny as daylight.

But if his thoughts are sordid, then even if he walks in the sunshine his heart will be as though harbouring demons.

心体光明,暗室中有青天;念头暗昧,白日下有厉鬼。

Notes

The inner sun: Luminosity transcends darkness

A radiant spirit transforms external obscurity into boundless freedom. Even in isolation or adversity, integrity creates its own cosmos of clarity.

The inner abyss: Shadows corrupt reality

A corrupted psyche morphs bright circumstances into psychic torment. Wealth, power, or fame become hellscapes when fueled by malice or greed.

Ultimate Wisdom:

Virtue as unquenchable light; Vice as self-forged chains. The ultimate freedom lies not in changing the world, but mastering one’s inner climate.
