Don’t you see?
The Yellow River’s waters come from the sky,
Rushing to the sea – never to return.
Don’t you see?
In bright halls, mirrors grieve over white hair – At dawn, black as silk; by dusk, white as snow.
When life grants joy, revel in it fully!
Let not your golden cup face the moon empty.
Heaven gave me talents – not for nothing!
A thousand gold coins spent? They’ll come again!
Slaughter sheep, butcher oxen – let’s feast and be merry!
We must drink three hundred cups at one sitting!
Master Cen! Danqiu Sheng!
Bring in the wine – don’t stop filling the cups!
I’ll sing you a song – Lend me your ears and listen well!
Bells, drums, fine jade meals – these hold no worth.
I only wish to stay drunk and never wake.
Since ancient times, sages and worthies lie forgotten in silence;
Only drinkers leave their names behind.
Think of Prince Chen at the Banquet of Ping Le – Ten thousand coins for a cask, yet he laughed and drank freely!
Host, why speak of lacking money?
Go straight and buy wine – we’ll drink together!
Call the boy!
Take my dappled horse, my fur-lined robe worth a fortune – Trade them for fine wine,
So we may drown eternity’s sorrow – together!
